Our carefully machined Kiln Dried Douglas Fir Half Lap Cladding is the perfect choice should you require a clean linear appearance, impeccable weather protection, along with the natural durability and stunning grain of Douglas Fir. Unlike a Shiplap profile, with its distinctive shadow lines once fitted, the half lap profile offers a more smoother finish with its slimmer shadow gap, making it ideal for use on contemporary builds or extensions to an older property.

Douglas Fir has striking colour variations from pinks, browns to creams depending on which part of the tree it is cut. There are some dark brown knots which can loosen as the wood dries, this occasionally results in resin patches that may ooze a little at first and sometimes during subsequent hot summers. Due to its super high resin content, Douglas Fir can prove to be twice as durable as common pine, making it an incredibly strong and hardwearing species.

Ready to fix and available in two options - First grade and Character:

  • First Grade is sorted to include only the clearest (most knot free) boards with the straightest grain possible. A perfect choice for all modern and contemporary applications.
  • Character will have a mixture of all top four grades, 1 through to 4 - some clear of knots and some straight grain, others with knots and some sloping grain. A perfect choice for all traditional/rustic applications, it gives a less uniformed look, without compromising its excellent durability properties.

End-Matching (Tongue and Groove) will allow you to place joints where they fall, instead of on the stud, allowing you to finish the job more quickly without sacrificing on quality and helps minimise wastage.

UK Timber works with the Treatex brand to enable us to offer you treatments and finishes for both internal and external applications. Our Treatex Douglas Fir Protection offers long lasting weather protection for external applications, whereas for internal applications our range of Treatex Hardwax Oils will enhance the woods natural appearance and characteristics. Should you wish to leave it to age gracefully, your boards will eventually turn to a beautiful silvery grey colour.

We offer the following section size:

  • 142mm x 20mm - The overall width is 142mm, with the visible face measuring 132mm
  • 142mm x 26mm - The overall width is 142mm, with the visible face measuring 132mm

If exposed to varying weather conditions before fitting your boards, they are likely to cup, warp and split; the ideal time to fit cladding to keep this to a minimum is between the months of October and April and within 7 to 14 days of delivery.

Priced per square metre and supplied in random lengths between 1200mm and 3600mm unless otherwise specified for an additional charge:

  • Set lengths up to 3500mm - £15 ex VAT per sqm
  • Set lengths above 3500mm - £18 ex VAT per sqm

Please contact our Sales Team on 01536 267 107 should you have any issues.
