Oak fencing is traditionally used in the UK in situations where it is important to take advantage of the inherent longevity of this beautiful domestic hardwood.

Fencing grade oak material is taken from just a slightly higher grade of log than sleeper grade. In other words, oak fence posts are a good solid material but can have numerous cosmetic defects such as splits, wane, historic insect damage, weather discolouration and more.

All those cosmetic defects will rarely be in the same piece of timber at the same time. In essence, oak fencing materials are there to do a job and to last for decades. If something a little more aestetically pleasing is required then we offer a selected grade of oak fence posts which will cost a little more due to the work in selecting from a more visually appealing log selection.

It will retain all the benefits of a standard oak fence post while having better visuals and presentation. For example, the material will always be fresh sawn and unweathered and will be primarily straight and true (or at least as much as possible from this grade of material). This grade of oak fence post will always be from European oak, not cheaper turkey oak alternatives.

It is also possible to select for your posts to be planed all round while ordering using the drop down box. Pyramid, half pyramid and weathered tops, morticing and shaping can be selected at the same time prior to check out. All of these choices can be made online at any time.

If looking for the highest grade of oak to hang our quality gates on then of course gate posts should be chosen here.
